The cheetah’s most prominent legends explain its distinct “tear tracks,” while other stories reflect its ancient prestige as a royal hunting companion.
Today less than 7000 cheetahs remain in the wild. The largest population of free-roaming cheetahs can be found in Namibia, with local and international conservationists working to secure the future of the species.
This cheetah portrait was created using a technique similar to scratchboard, where the black area is scraped away with sharp tools to reveal the white of the paper beneath.
